HomeProject Spotlight – BMO Tower

BMO Tower

Chicago, IL

BMO Financial Group signed on to occupy 500,000 square feet in the 1.5 million-square-foot, 51 floor namesake Chicago skyscraper. It was designed by Goettsch Partners and developed by Riverside Investment & Development along with Convexity Properties.

Poblocki Sign Company fabricated and installed the BMO letters and logo on the rooftop and on the first floor lobby. We were selected because of the amount of high-rise signs we have completed in Chicago (Trump Tower, Northern Trust, CNA, Accenture and more) and the expertise of our engineering staff to accomplish such a complex project.

Watch the installation of the BMO Tower signage as it becomes a part of the iconic Chicago skyline.

The Challenge

The size of the BMO letters and logo are sizable due to the desire to have the sign visible from the air and from all the surrounding freeways. The installation and support structure were specially designed to accommodate the articulating glass curtain wall on the 51-floor BMO Tower and be mounted on the same plane.

Solution

A special steel structure was engineered and built to follow the curves of the articulating glass curtain wall. The design of this structure balanced the need to have the strength to support the sizable BMO letters and logo, be minimalistic so as not to overpower the letters and logo, and be nearly invisible to allow the beauty of the building and signage to blend together.

Results

The signage looks FANTASTIC! These signs can be seen in some capacity from all 4 expressways, which was our goal. Appreciate all the hard work to get this to the finish line. – Kory M. Fox, Senior Manager – Global Retail Design and US Projects, BMO Financial Group
