Poblocki Sign Company Joins Resurrection of Cedarburg’s Rivoli Cinema
The sign company will restore the cinema’s marquee to its early 20th century image
MILWAUKEE – August 20, 2007 – Poblocki Sign Company announced today it will help rebuild the Rivoli Cinema, a Cedarburg landmark, to its original 1930s appearance. A new marquee is being manufactured by Poblocki to resemble the original one the company built in 1936. The new marquee is expected to be installed by the end of 2007.
“To have built the original marquee 60 years ago and to still be in business to rebuild that same marquee today is an exciting achievement for Poblocki,” says Jerry Poblocki, chairman of the board for Poblocki Sign Company. “The challenge then was to maintain the marquee’s façade; a challenge we can now overcome today through our maintenance and repair offering. We can now keep signs in great condition without rebuilding them.”
Poblocki has designed and installed numerous marquees across the Midwest in states such as Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Illinois and Wisconsin.
The Rivoli Cinema was purchased by the Cedarburg Landmark Preservation Society in December 2006. Since then the cinema has been open to the public even while under construction. In addition to adding a new marquee to the cinema, the box office and façade are being rebuilt to emulate the look it had when it first opened. Once all renovations are completed, the cinema will have a grand opening distributing reprints of the original brochures given at the grand opening in 1936.
